My name is Andrew Gutmann. I am just a Dad who cares deeply about education and who is highly concerned about the illiberal and anti-intellectual direction in which our country seems to be heading.

I began my career as a Research Assistant at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC. After getting an MBA, I worked as an investment banker at several firms focused mainly on restructuring transactions (advising distressed/bankrupt companies) and then Mergers and Acquisitions.

I am the author of “How to Be an Investment Banker: Recruiting, Interviewing, and Landing the Job published in 2013 by Wiley Finance and the creator of the website IBankingFAQ, I was also for 10 years a Career Coach at Columbia Business School where I advised and mentored MBA students. I have taught finance and investment banking classes for a number of institutions, including at the Institute for Finance, a firm that I founded.

I am also a self taught web developer and have participated in a number of entrepreneurial ventures, including as the founder and developer of igokids, a search engine for families and more recently as the developer of a low-code application development platform. I am also involved in my family’s chemical business. I write occasional blog pieces, mostly about economics, at EconomicsFAQ.
